Ashley has had type 1 diabetes (T1D) for 23 years. Her diagnosis at age 7 came as a complete shock to her family. Ashley’s story is a tale of how she, her parents and friends learned to cope with the daily rigors of living with this chronic illness.

Ashley was raised in Baltimore, Maryland, and now resides in Warrington, Pennsylvania. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Villanova University in 2005. Upon graduation from nursing school, she worked at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. She now works for a continuous glucose monitoring company as a nurse and certified diabetes educator in the Philadelphia and South Jersey area.

At the time of her diagnosis, Ashley and her family were very active in the local JDRF support group and participated in many walk-a-thons at the Baltimore Zoo, raising thousands of dollars for research to find a cure for diabetes.

She is honored to be invited to speak this evening before this assembled group of friends of JDRF. Ashley’s hope is that with the unrelenting efforts of JDRF to find a cure for T1D, one day she will be celebrating with her friends at the Promised and Delivered Ball.

New this year! Members of our Chapter can help accelerate the pace of diabetes research by partnering with JDRF to raise funds for the annual Gala Fund A Cure Campaign. All you have to do is set up a fundraising page, email it to your peers, and ask them to support research! To get started, please sign up by clicking the link below.

Fund A Cure is a unique opportunity to make a 100% tax-deductible donation to JDRF that will fund vital research to cure, treat, and prevent type 1 diabetes. Since 1994, JDRF has raised over $211 million through Fund A Cure alone.

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. While its causes are not yet entirely understood, scientists believe that both genetic factors and environmental triggers are involved.

JDRF is the leading global organization focused on T1D research. Driven by passionate, grassroots volunteers connected to children, adolescents, and adults with this disease, JDRF is the largest charitable supporter of T1D research. The goal of JDRF is to improve the lives of every person affected by T1D by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing the disease. More than 80 percent of JDRF's expenditures directly support research and research-related education. JDRF will not rest until T1D is fully conquered.
