Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. While its causes are not yet entirely understood, scientists believe that both genetic factors and environmental triggers are involved.

JDRF is the leading global organization focused on T1D research. Driven by passionate, grassroots volunteers connected to children, adolescents, and adults with this disease, JDRF is the largest charitable supporter of T1D research. The goal of JDRF is to improve the lives of every person affected by T1D by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing the disease. More than 80 percent of JDRF's expenditures directly support research and research-related education. JDRF will not rest until T1D is fully conquered.

New this year! Members of our Chapter can help accelerate the pace of diabetes research by partnering with JDRF to raise funds for the annual Gala Fund A Cure Campaign. All you have to do is set up a fundraising page, email it to your peers, and ask them to support research! To get started, please sign up by clicking the link below.

Fund A Cure is a unique opportunity to make a 100% tax-deductible donation to JDRF that will fund vital research to cure, treat, and prevent type 1 diabetes. Since 1994, JDRF has raised over $211 million through Fund A Cure alone.

Benjet Family's Story
Fund A Cure is the most dynamic and exciting moment at a JDRF Gala. For ten years we have been awed by the incredible generosity of gala audiences committed to curing diabetes.

We are also awed by the help and support our friends have shown to us as we fight diabetes in our family.  Josh is a kind, funny, smart and caring young man who has never let diabetes stand in his way.  But it's a hard disease to manage.

JDRF has made Josh's life easier and we are seeing real results.  In fact, Josh now wears a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) that did not exist when he was diagnosed.

We are  encouraged by the pace of research and the fact there are now over 50 HUMAN clinical trials. There were only 4 when Josh was diagnosed.  And although we've heard diabetes has been cured in mice more times than we wish to count. . . we are getting closer to radically changing how this disease is treated in people and to ultimately curing it.

This year we chair the gala - after Josh said we should - and we will do everything we can to drive research forward.  Please help us with a Fund A Cure gift, a 100% tax deductible gift that goes straight to research.

Thank you!

Kim, Brian, Josh and Hannah Benjet
